This past weekend in Bozeman Stana and I photographed this family with their first baby. I love making images that are more a look into the joy of family rather than merely a representation of what the people in the family look like. Making these images are simple. We nurture a space where the family is relaxed and comfortable. After a few images of the baby, I then ask the family to hang out on the couch and forget about looking at the camera….”just enjoy one another and I’ll take a few more images”. I use this approach because it’s how I like my family photographed. I want to remember what we look like when we’re together and no one is watching with any expectation of perfection. I think photographing joy is the best intention and best result.
